SWAMP THING HEADS TO WINDSOR!

Derek Mears to Debut 1^st Canadian Comic Convention Appearance at Windsor ComiCon.

 Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon presented by Cartoon Kingdom is thrilled to welcome Derek Mears to this year’s guest line-up. Mears will be debuting his 1^st Canadian Comic Convention appearance at this year’s show, which will be taking place at Caesars Windsor; September 21-22, 2019.

As a fan favourite who has transcended several pop culture genres, Mears plays the pivotal role of the Swamp Thing in the Swamp Thing (DC Universe) TV series (2019). More recently, he portrayed Romo in Alita: Battle Angel (2019). Of seminal importance, he has played several key characters, more notably as the alien trophy hunter, the Classic Predator in Predators (2010) and as Crystal Lake’s iconic killer that served up a variety of grizzly murders as the death dealing Jason Vorhees in Friday the 13^th (2009).

Windsor ComiCon to Welcome World-Class DC Comics Artist Jason Fabok on Batman Day.

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon presented by Cartoon Kingdom is pleased to welcome colossal comic book illustrator, Jason Fabok to its 2019 guest line-up.

Going toe-to-toe with the likes of the The Joker and other villains belonging to Batman’s Rogues Gallery has become commonplace for local resident Jason Fabok. As a world-class artist who was mentored under fellow resident David Finch, Fabok unleashed his creative genius when he illustrated Finch’s final two issue of Batman: The Dark Knight. Shortly after, Fabok signed an exclusive deal with DC Comics where he serves as a leading artist, designer and illustrator.

With the launch of The New 52, Fabok drew various covers as well as the first Batman Annual and Justice League International Annual, before taking over the helm as the principal artist on Detective Comics (with issue #13) in collaboration with writer John Layman. Fabok would then go on to work on Batman: Eternal, Justice League and Suicide Squad before working on The Button in 2017, which was a crossover story arc from DC’s Batman and Flash publications that served as build up towards the Doomsday Clock event.

More recently, Fabok teamed-up with DC Comics’ writer Geoff Johns on Batman: Three Jokers that is being released in three 46-page issues under DC’s Black Label imprint for mature readers. The story ties into main DC continuity to explain the Rebirth-era mystery of how three different versions of the Joker exist in main DC continuity. In addition to Batman, the miniseries stars Barbara Gordon (Batgirl) and Jason Todd (who took the mantle of the 2nd Robin after Dick Grayson and also the 2nd alias of the Red Hood), onto whom both have a dark history with the Joker.

Just under a month ago, Fabok won an Eisner Award for Best Short Story The Talk of the Saints in Swamp Thing Winter Special (DC) where he collaborated with DC Writer Tom King.

Fabok diversifies his skills as a sculptor and has worked on a variety of toys, collectibles and statues under the DC umbrella.

Fabok will be appearing at Windsor ComiCon on Saturday, September 21, 2019, which around the World will be celebrated as Batman Day. The purpose of Batman Day is to celebrate the anniversary of the character’s first ever appearance (Detective Comics #27; May 1939) where he has grown into one of the world’s most loved and recognizable characters featured in a variety of mediums.

TITANIC COMIC BOOK ILLUSTRATOR HEADS TO WINDSOR
Windsor ComiCon Welcomes David Finch to its 2019 Guest Line-Up.

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon presented by Cartoon Kingdom is pleased to welcome titanic comic book illustrator, David Finch to its 2019 guest line-up.

As a perennial favourite amongst comic book fans worldwide, Finch is a local comic book artist who received his start in the industry working for Top Cow Productions. After a lengthy stint on Cyberforce following series creator and studio founder Marc Silvestri, Finch went on to co-create Ascension with Matt “Batt” Banning. He would later work on the first three issues of Aphrodite IX with David Wohl.

In 2003, Finch returned to comics for a year-long arc on Ultimate X-Men with writer Brian Michael Bendis. Following that stint, the duo moved on to Avengers, where they destroyed Marvel’s premiere superhero team only to relaunch it as The New Avengers featuring a radically different cast. He then worked on the new Moon Knight series together with novelist Charlie Huston. After he left the series, Finch illustrated Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America #4, featuring Spider-Man. His next assignment was the crossover event Ultimatum for the Ultimate Marvel Line along with writer Jeph Loeb who he previously worked with on Fallen Son. He also drew several covers, including those of World War Hulk, X-Men #200 and the X-Men: Messiah Complex one-shot.

During this time, Finch also illustrated the cover to Disturbed‘s 2008 album, Indestructible, as well as doing concept design for the film adaptation of Alan Moore’s Watchmen.

In 2010, Finch left Marvel and became a DC Comics exclusive artist. He collaborated with Grant Morrison on Batman #700; an oversized anniversary issue. Later that July, DC announced that he would be writing and drawing a new ongoing series entitled Batman: The Dark Knight, which was the first story arc that dealt with the detective’s more supernatural cases. The series launched with a January 2011 cover date though was relaunched later that same year as part of the company-wide reboot The New 52. From there, Finch and Geoff Johns launched a new Justice League of America series and the Forever Evil limited series in 2013; and later, with his wife Meredith, took over the creative duties on Wonder Woman beginning with issue #36 in 2015, which was their first collaborative effort. Finally, as part of the DC Rebirth relaunch of DC’s titles, Finch teamed-up with writer Tom King to launch the Batman vol. 3 series in June 2016.

ROSE COMIC CREATOR HEADS TO WINDSOR COMICON
Windsor ComiCon Welcomes Meredith Finch to its 2019 Guest Line-Up

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon presented by Cartoon Kingdom is pleased to welcome local writer and comic book creator, Meredith Finch to its 2019 guest line-up.

Known internationally for her work on DC Comics’ Wonder Woman where she collaborated with her husband and legendary illustrator David, Finch both embodies and provides an authentic voice for the modern day female heroine.

In addition to this, she’s written for a variety of titles including Catwoman (DC Comics), Grimm Fairy Tales Presents: The Little Mermaid (Zenescope) and Xena: Warrior Princess (Dynamite Comics).

Currently, she’s writing her own creation, “Rose”, for Image Comics, which combines her love of mythology with modern issues.

In 2018, she was nominated for a Joe Schuster Award for best writer for her work on Catwoman.

Finch will be appearing at Windsor ComiCon on Sunday, September 22, 2019. Fans will have the ability to learn more about her experiences in the comic industry while having their favourite books signed.
