LOCAL WINDSORITE ‘HIDDEN GEM’ TO SHOWCASE TALENT
Windsor ComiCon announces its 3rd comic guest Tony Gray.

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon is pleased to welcome local Windsorite and accomplished artist Tony Gray as its 3rd comic guest for the 2017 season.

Gray is a comic book writer and illustrator who began his career as an editorial illustrator for some of North America’s largest newspaper chains such as Southam Press, Canwest and Postmedia. He has worked on comic books, comic strips and character designs for top comic publishers/syndicates, and companies such as GlassMonkey Studios, Hasbro and Chrysler. He has also illustrated works featuring characters as widely diverse as Batman, Spider-man, Red Sonja and Princess Lollipop!

Currently, his work is featured all across North America including a syndicated strip, ‘Tales of the Incredible Conduit’ which began in 2009, ‘Lou & Blue’ with actor Kenny Hotz (Kenny vs Spenny) and illustrating the Spencer Rice (Kenny vs Spenny)/Tony Lee written comedy series, ‘Hypno-Twist’. The international daily comic strip, ‘Saturday Afternoon’, which started in the year 2000, is also created, written and drawn by him.

In 2011, Tony partnered with colleague David Finch to incorporate GlassMonkey Studios, which has provided illustration work for companies such as Hasbro and Chrysler. In 2012, Gray took over sole ownership of GlassMonkey and assumed the publishing mantle for the comic book titles ‘Tales of the Incredible Conduit’, ‘white plastic’, and the upcoming ‘Carla Homicide’.

Gray has now begun working with Nicholas Hammond, who played Spider-man/Peter Parker in the 1970’s live action television series to bring that version of the character to the comic book world. His current sketches of Spider-Man and All-New Wolverine have caught the attention of Marvel great’s including John Romita Sr.

BLACK FEMALE SUPER HERO PIONEER TO SHOWCASE TALENT
Windsor ComiCon announces its 2^nd comic guest Arvell Jones.

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon is thrilled to welcome local Detroiter and accomplished artist Arvell Jones as its 2^nd comic guest of the 2017 season.

Jones’ work first began with Marvel assisting on features including the Black Panther and cyborg antihero Deathlok. His first full comics-art debut came in Marvel Premiere #20 starring the Iron Fist. He would continue drawing the next two stories where he co-created supporting character Misty Knight, a major ally to Iron Fist and Luke Cage. His influential character was meant to represent the epitome of strong, black womanhood in comics and would go on to pave the way for other similar characters. Misty Knight (portrayed by actress Simone Missick) made her debut television appearance through the Marvel Cinematic Universe Netflix series Luke Cage and is slated for a recurring role in the upcoming and highly anticipated release of Marvel’s Defenders set for release (through Netflix) on Friday, August 18, 2017.

Jones’ most well-known work comes from DC Comics’ All-Star Squadron where he penciled the majority of issues from 1985 to 1987. Now, a successful television producer Jones still tries to find time to work on commissioned art and make convention appearances.

Windsor ComiCon Announces 2017 Beneficiary through the Kiwanis Club of Windsor.

Windsor, ON. Windsor ComiCon is pleased to announce that the Kiwanis Club of Windsor (Kiwanis Sunshine Point Camp) has been selected as its official beneficiary for 2017. The Club will be presented with a monetary gift on the final day of the show (Sunday, August 13, 2017) while receiving the opportunity to use the event as a promotional platform to both gain and enhance community awareness of its programs and services.

“We are thrilled to have been selected as the official beneficiary for Windsor ComiCon,” says Kiwanis Club of Windsor President, Dan Inverarity. “It’s literally heroes helping heroes to benefit children in our community!”

To mark this occasion (and community partnership going forward), Kiwanis Sunshine Point Camp will begin hosting ComiCon Themed Events at every weekly camp during the Summer. “In addition to teaching kids that often never get a chance to go to camp, we will promote literacy through reading, acting and expressing themselves via ComiCon Themed Events and activities,” says Kiwanis Club of Windsor Treasurer, Pearl Davies.
